This work will be done by the jailbreak tweak AFVideo which is free. Normally to refocus a video when recording on your iPhone 5 or 5S requires a touch on the screen. But once you install the AFVideo, there is no need to configure anything. The camera app of your iOS device will simply start focusing automatically when you are recording something.

This is not the only trick for iOS devices, the developer has brought many other tweaks for camera. The iOS devices running on iO7 and later are compatible with AFVideo, it also works with iOS 6 and iOS 5 to boot.

The iOS 8.1 was tested on iPhone 5 and it worked as expected but the Autofocus feature on iPhone 5 is little slower than iPhone 6. Though you install AFVideo you can still tap the screen manually if you want to select a focus while recording a video.

So using Autofocus feature on older iOS devices that is iPhone 5 or 5S is easy enough, all you need to do is installing the AFVideo and you are good to go.
