How to enable auto-download files on Skype

Skype is one of the best options for chatting and video calling, but not just that. You can use Skype to send and receive files. For instance, you are on a business trip and your co-worker needs to send you a bunch of files that you have to present at a meeting. Instead of sending you an email, you can chat with the coworker and he or she can send you files at the same time, explaining it and sorting it out right away. By default, when files are sent, you have to click Accept and then the files will be downloaded and placed in a folder on your device. If this constant clicking annoys you, you can enable the auto-download option and the files will be automatically downloaded to your PC. If this is something you want to do, keep reading. How to enable auto-download files on Skype

By default, auto-download files is disabled on Skype. But turning this option on is very simple. Here is how you can do just that:

  • Open Skype on your desktop or laptop
  • Next, open the menu by clicking on three dots next to your profile pic
  • Now click Settings
  • In the Settings menu, select Messaging
  • Look for the option “Auto-download files”
  • The switch next to the option will be in grey color because the app is turned off
  • To enable the option, click on the switch and it will turn into blue color meaning you have successfully turned it on

Now that you have enabled “Auto-download files”, you no longer have to click Accept each time someone is sending you a file. Instead, the files will automatically download and will be saved in the “Downloads” folder unless you have selected another folder for this purpose.
